"The Blossoms of Jazz": A novel of black female jazz musicians in the 1930s. (Original novel);.

This novel tells the stories of three black female jazz musicians who formed a trio, The Blossoms of Jazz, and traveled across the United States during the 1930s. The story is primarily related in the form of interviews being conducted by and commented upon by the daughters of two of the musicians. But, the story is also enhanced by other authoritative voices from the fields of social history, feminist theory, oral history, music historiography, and creative writing whose opinions and evaluations present a battle and a dialogue with the interviews of the three major characters. Although the novel is an imaginative attempt at re-creating some of the forgotten world of African-American musicianship and African-American culture as it existed in the 1930s, the novel also alludes to and discusses real musicians, conditions, events, and places that were part of that world and that culture.PhDAmerican CultureUniversity of Michigan, Horace H.
